OPP Support

The OPP developer community is happy to provide support free of charge. However, with free support you get what you pay for - there are no service guarantees and the priority of your request depends entirely on the developers priorities and not your own.

For users requiring a higher level of service, Odin Consulting offers support contracts. Contact the Service Department for more information.

This page provides answers to common questions and instructions for submitting bug reports and other service requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Submit a question
  2. The version number 0.3 scares me. Is OPP usable? Does it have lots of bugs and/or crash all the time?
Relax. The version number has nothing to do with the stability of the code or the number of bugs. In any release, we strive for the highest quality. We simply refuse to bestow the name 1.0 until OPP has achieved a certain level of functionality.
  3. When will OPP 0.3 be complete?
The schedule currently calls for Q3 2002. However, a lot can happen between now and then. If you want to ensure that it is delivered sooner, either volunteer to help or pay us to complete the features that you need.
  4. When will OPP 1.0 come out?
The schedule currently says Q2 2003.
  5. Can I help?
Absolutely! See our Development Page for information about access to the latest code and other developer resources.
  6. Will I get paid to help?
In general, no. However, you should consider the non-tangible benefits of contributing to a sophisticated open source project like OPP. You will be helping the programming community, gaining name recognition, learning new skills and keeping your existing skills sharp. In short, working on OPP is a great resume-builder.

If your work on OPP benefits your employer, you may be able to convince them to let you do it during work hours. Our own work on OPP, while sometimes done out of our own pockets, is sometimes paid for by clients with their consent. If you're lucky enough to get paid for working on OPP, then we ask that you provide a letter from your employer or client stating that your work can be incorporated into our releases.

Support Contracts

Please contact our Service Department for support contract options that may be available to you.

Service Requests and Bug Reports

Send general questions and inquiries to opp@odin-consulting.com.

Send bug reports to opp@odin-consulting.com. Include in the report details of the platform on which the bug occurs along with as much information about the problem as possible. The more information that you provide, the better our chances of being able to reproduce and/or fix the bug. If possible, include a small test program that demonstrates the problem.

Documentation

Documentation for OPP 0.2.5; consisting of a description of each class. More detailed documentation was intentionally omitted due to the transitional nature of the OPP 0.2.x interface.

Official documentation for OPP 0.3 is not yet available. It will be much more detailed than the OPP 0.2.5 documentation and will incorporate live feedback, development plans and bug reports into a "living document". An overview of OPP 0.3 is available on the development page.
